Uncensored New York was founded in 2021 by Samantha Sutcliffe and Johnny Scuotto as an artist run organization against censorship. Uncensored New York focuses on creating an environment where people can grow and get support for artistic endeavors. We open our door to all walks of life.
Over the last four years we have curated exhibitions, distributed feature length films and programmed lectures, radio shows, art fairs and live music events with a dedication to the production of art in this daunting socio-political landscape. Additionally we have a record label for digital and phyiscal releases.
In 2024 we launch an education program that utilizes art history, theory and studio practice to explore the frameworks of censorship and its impact on individuals and society as a whole. Work in all mediums and practices are supported. Our lectures are distributed via Profane Realm // Reino Profano, a Usb exchange inspired by alternative distribution methods that counter censorship and assimilation across the Americas. It promotes a free exchange that emphasizes real-life relationships and bypasses the filters imposed by our current media infrastructure. For example, consider researching ‘El Paquete Semanal’ in Cuba.
Uncensored New York is part of the Brujas World Syndicate and the recepient of Creatives Rebuild New York and The City Artist Corps Grant.
